It's all or nothing. The dinosaurs had their chance, so did the Dodo-bird. If a species is eradicated by evolution, there is – in general - nothing left. Sometimes a bit of genetic material may linger on in some other form of life, and one may even consider Jurassic Park a viable option in the future – but that is how far our dreams can go.
Considering that the earth as a whole will perish in about 6.5 bio years, there is limited time for mankind to make a plan on how to bail out. We might make it to new places for living by chance – that’s the Jurassic Park probability. We might make it out on honest research, or we might be extinguished by doomsday or even eradicate ourselves long before.
Whatever the future will be, if we won’t be gone in enough time, the value of this branch of evolution will be zilch! Funny idea, that is. All our efforts, all our philosophy, all our technical effort might just be for the birds – well, not even for them. It’s an all or nothing thing. Evolution is not kind.
Fortunately, there is no stringent theory about an end of the universe. Assuming that there is enough dark matter, there is a possibility of a re-collapse. If not, it will continue expanding. But first things first: Let’s make it past the next 7 bio years.
